The Light at the End of the Tunnel Has Been Turned Off

Some blooody Journo
became a bit of a hero
as he struggled and strived
to stay alive
to finish his best-seller
about his Cancer.

He broke the News
in the way his muse
told him: his column –
first daily, then
weekly. A Digest
of his Digestive Collapse.

That’s what got him.

Not the Drinker’s Liver
nor the Smoker’s Lung
nor the Junk-food Junkie’s
Cholesterol Bung.
Something else.
It grew in his tummy like he was a mummy
and he gave it a name and shared his hopeful agonised…

it was all just a game.

A Grand Cosmic Joke.

He became
a household Name
though nobody really knew who he was.

I can’t hold a candle to that.

So when my doctor – MY Doctor – told me…
About me… About my…

I couldn’t ask “How long have I got?”
There was no joke – this was no joke.

This previously Dark Tunnel suddenly
became
brightly lit, and the exit…(?)

Let’s just say that I won’t be going Into The Light
at the End of The Tunnel.

The Way Out is dark.
